Los Angeles has one Veterans Day parade, and the City of Los Angeles says so in plain words: the San Fernando Valley holds the only Veterans Day parade in the city. Not downtown, not Westwood, not the Westside. It runs south down Laurel Canyon Boulevard from Mission Hills into Pacoima. The organisers have already posted 2026, which puts Los Angeles ahead of most of the country: the 23rd annual parade steps off at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11. The other half of the day, the free meals, is nowhere near as settled. Every list you will find today is last year’s list. We checked.
The parade, and where it actually is
The 23rd annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade steps off at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. The organisers have that date and time posted on their own site, which is worth saying out loud because almost nothing else about this holiday is confirmed yet. The start time is deliberate: the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
The route is short and straight. It forms up at the corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and San Fernando Mission Boulevard in Mission Hills, heads south down Laurel Canyon, and finishes at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center, 10736 Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Pacoima, on the corner of Paxton Street. A little over a mile, kerbside the whole way, free to watch. Park east or west of Laurel Canyon and walk in rather than trying to cross once the column is moving.
If you want to be in it rather than watch it, the organisers check entries in from 7.30 a.m. and close check-in at 10.30 a.m. sharp. Veterans ride with immediate family only, which the organisers define as parents, spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
One thing that will trip you up on the organisers’ own page: an older line reading Thursday, November 11, 2021 is still sitting underneath the 2026 headline. The 2026 line is the current one. November 11 is a Wednesday this year.
There is a reason the parade sits where it does rather than downtown. The San Fernando Valley holds one of the largest concentrations of veterans anywhere in Los Angeles.
Free meals: what is actually confirmed for 2026
Same problem, different subject. Search for Veterans Day free meals right now and you will find long lists with 2026 in the headline. Open the restaurants’ own pages and the offers are from 2025. Applebee’s Veterans Day page, as this was written in mid-September, still says the free entree is available on Tuesday, November 11, which was last year’s date.
So we are not going to publish a list of offers that no restaurant has agreed to. What we can tell you is the pattern, because it is remarkably stable. The chains that run a free Veterans Day meal have run it for years, most announce in the last week of October, and the terms rarely move: dine-in only, one meal per veteran, a limited menu to choose from, drinks and tip not included, and participating locations only, which matters enormously across a county this size. Applebee’s has run its offer for eighteen consecutive years. Golden Corral, Texas Roadhouse, Chili’s, Denny’s, Red Robin, Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans and Buffalo Wild Wings have all been regular participants.
The parade and the meals are on the same day here, which is not true in every city, so you can do both. The parade is done by about one o’clock.

What counts as proof of service
This is the question that actually causes trouble at the door, and the answer is broader than most people expect. Applebee’s published terms accept a Uniformed Services ID card, a Uniformed Services retired ID card, a current Leave and Earnings Statement, a veterans organization card such as American Legion or VFW, a DD214, a citation or commendation, and, simply, a photograph of yourself in uniform. Most chains use a similar list. If you served and you do not carry a card, a DD214 or a photo is usually enough. Call the specific location first, because the offer is franchise-level and the person answering the phone is the one who will be working the door.

The veteran in your house is reading the top half of this page. If you are the one buying for him or her, this is the half that matters. Where to eat after the parade
The parade finishes around one o’clock in Pacoima, and the closest tables on our lists are a short drive southwest. These are ranked by Insider Score. One note on what is missing: MGD Korean BBQ in Northridge scores 8.6 and would otherwise be on this list, but it does not open until four in the afternoon on a Wednesday, so it is a dinner, not a lunch.
